A besamim holder is the container that holds the fragrant spices smelled during Havdalah. We smell the besamim to comfort the soul as Shabbos departs.

What goes in a besamim holder?

Usually cloves, cinnamon, or a blend of both. Any natural, pleasant-smelling spice may be used. Some Feldart holders come pre-filled for convenience.
