FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are zemiros?
Zemiros are the songs sung at the Shabbos and Yom Tov table, like Shalom Aleichem, Kah Ribon and Yom Zeh Mechubad, mostly in Hebrew and Aramaic. A zemiros set puts the words in front of every guest so the whole table can sing along.
What does the word zemiros mean?
Zemiros (zemirot in Sephardic pronunciation) comes from the Hebrew word for song or melody. It refers to the table songs of Shabbos and Yom Tov.
Are there zemiros for Motzei Shabbos?
Yes. Melave Malka songs such as Hamavdil and Eliyahu Hanavi are sung after Havdalah, and most full zemiros booklets include them.
What is the difference between a zemiros set and a bencher set?
A bencher holds Birkas Hamazon, while a zemiros booklet holds the Shabbos table songs, and most zemiros booklets include benching as well. Our guide, Bencher Set vs. Zemiros Set, compares them side by side.
How many zemiros booklets do I need?
Plan one per regular seat plus a few for guests. Feldart's Woven Leather and Elevated Stones zemiros sets come as a standard set or a set of 12 in a lucite holder that keeps them on the table, from $94 to $225.
