FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Leatherite?

Leatherite is Feldart's signature line that pairs a leather finish with clear lucite. You will find it on challah boards, challah covers, benchers, candle lighting trays, booklets and wall art.

Why do we cover the challah?

Two reasons are commonly given. Kiddush is made on wine before the bracha on bread, so the challah is covered so it is not "slighted." The cover also recalls the dew that covered the mann in the desert above and below.

Is a challah cover necessary?

Covering the challah during Kiddush is a universal custom. Any clean cloth works, but a dedicated cover adds kavod to the Shabbos table.

How do you clean a leather challah board or cover?

Wipe the leather with a damp cloth. Clean the lucite or glass surface with a soft cloth and mild soapy water, then dry. Do not soak the piece or put it in the dishwasher.

Can I personalize a Leatherite piece?

Where a personalization option appears next to the item, add it to your order and allow about 48 extra hours. For a fully custom design, contact Feldart's in-house design team.
